Augustus (Jim) Spooner

Augustus, known as Jim Spooner was with the Air Ministry Constabulary who provided security at RAF airfields. The photo below is provided courtesy of his son George, and shows Jim in uniform – taken circa 1940. .

Jimmy Lister is a retired train driver, who shunted ammunition between Carlisle and other locations, including Silloth, during WW2. This was a dangerous job and the train crew were often at risk, since sparks or overheated wheels could set fire to the ammunition … with dire consequences.

Jimmy  also drove the last train to Silloth before it finally closed 50 years ago in September 1974.
